Vaulted ceilings linger above the living room, which is warmed by a granite fireplace. A wall of windows filters in natural light, and the room provides a a place for formal dining as well. A walk-in pantry, vegetable sink and granite finishes adorn a kitchen pointed toward the water. For those wanting to stay dry, the home is situated near hiking and nature trails. The deck can be accessed through the kitchen, living room and office, making it a perfect place to gather after a meal or just reflect in the midst of natural beauty. The fact that it's a newly built home with luxury amenities in an area dominated by older cabins helps too, she said.

This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Published 1:39 pm, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 Simplicity is a hallmark of Muennig's work, and the Big Sur property features his fingerprints in the form of concrete floors, glass walls and a cantilever ceiling that spans the living room. "The windows above the living room are one of my favorite features of the house," said John Saar of Sotheby's International Realty, who is listing the home for $2.995 million. A north-facing master suite looks out toward the canyons and features views of the water, while its bathroom includes detailed plasterwork and a jetted tub. Cabinets fabricated from bird's eye maple and stainless steel finishes play off the acid-etched concrete floor to create a modern look, while the fireplace offers a place to casually gather as a meal is prepared. A wine cellar is also included in the multi-million dollar home, which is warmed by radiant heating. Since only two other homes are near the lot and only one is visible from the property, Saar said privacy is another key feature of the home.

Designer Wendy Daniel builds a vision with her clients

This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Published 1:39 pm, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 The couple had done small projects on their own before, but the living room, dining room and basement were a broader challenge to them. With wood-framed furniture, intricate glass decorations and ornate lighting fixtures, the property named Rosemount is a place the Towns are pleased to call their home. A dining table constructed from solid hardwood provides character, while glass vases with blue hues soften the interior of the home redecorated in 2011. Rather than spend the bulk of the budget on flooring and build-ins, Daniel opted to invest in furnishings and designs that could stay with the family if and when they choose to move. While interior design is a form of art and can feature ego-driven personalities, Daniel's approach is about the clients. Attention to detail is crucial for a designer, both when it comes to decorating a home and running a business. Daniel, who studied graphic design at California State University Chico, previously worked in sales of health food. "Having a background in the business world before starting interior design I think has been a big help," she said.

Rent Watch: Illegal subletting could lead to eviction

Wed, 05/29/2013 - 10:49
Rent Watch: Illegal subletting could lead to eviction If you violated your lease by subletting, you may be in danger of eviction by your landlord. If the subtenant was still there, your landlord could serve a "three day notice to perform covenant or quit" requiring you to remove the tenant or face eviction. Since the subtenant is now gone, your landlord may have less motivation to begin eviction proceedings which will be expensive for both parties. Unless you collected some type of deposit, you will need to file a claim against your "friend" in small claims court to collect the rent for one month.
